The challenge of designing and installing an outdoor stone kitchen and bath beneath
a house on pylons led Mike to the drawing board with many ideas about how to outfit this
fine house with a fabulous new entertainment area . . . including a full-service kitchen and
bath, long granite topped stone bar and openings in stone walls  facing the swimming pool
and the San Jacinto River.

Within a short period of time, the installation was completed with outstanding results. The
pylons under the house were insulated for weather protection and covered with stone. A
floor of stone was laid and walls of stone were built around a portion of the kitchen and
bath. In its entirety the overall aesthetic effect resembled a cave. Mike refers to his finished
product as a high-tech 21st Century Italian Grotto (cave).

depicts the cave’s dramatic evening appeal.
A close-up photograph of the kitchen shows the
blend of the granite and stone with a wooden ceiling.

After
completing
the
construction of the
kitchen, Mike began
to focus on
enhancing the
home with the
installation of lush
landscaping and a
riverbed with
multiple-size river
rocks and boulders
for water drainage
from the roof of the
house. Gutters had
never been
installed over that
portion of the house
and a riverbed was
an ideal solution for
channeling standing
water away from
the side of the new
entertainment area.
It also proved to be
another stunning
enhancement for
the property. In
addition, Mike
added decorative
grass and an array
of plants along the
banks of the
riverbed.
More landscaping with plants was added throughout the grounds and plants in small and large
containers were placed around the perimeter of the kitchen and bath.

The owner of this patio home had never landscaped her small back yard and after Green Thumb
landscaped the property, the owner was overjoyed to have such a beautiful yard designed with
rock, dovasa pebbles and healthy plants.
